Applying for Financial Aid

Paying for college begins with completing the appropriate financial aid applications. Most colleges and universities require students to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) to determine eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid. Florida students should also complete the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) to be considered for state-funded scholarships, including Bright Futures.

Step 1: Complete the FAFSA®

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is the first step toward receiving financial assistance for college. Completing the FAFSA allows students to be considered for:

  • Federal Pell Grants
  • Federal Work-Study
  • Federal Student Loans
  • State financial aid programs
  • Institutional scholarships and grants

The FAFSA opens each year for the upcoming academic year. Students and families should complete the application as early as possible to maximize financial aid opportunities.

Step 2: Complete the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA)

Florida students should also submit the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) to be considered for state-funded scholarships and grants, including:

  • Other state financial aid opportunities

The FFAA becomes available each year and must be completed before high school graduation.
