College Entrance & Placement Testing

At COHEA Career & Collegiate Academy, we encourage all students to prepare for college entrance exams early. Strong academic performance, combined with competitive standardized test scores, can increase college admission opportunities, scholarship eligibility, and college readiness.

SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test)

The SAT is typically taken during the spring of junior year and again during the fall of senior year, if needed. The exam measures skills in:

  • Reading and Writing
  • Math

Many colleges and universities accept SAT scores as part of the admissions process and for scholarship consideration.

ACT (American College Test)

The ACT is another widely accepted college entrance exam that measures student achievement in:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Reading
  • Science

Students are encouraged to take the ACT during their junior or senior year to determine which test best reflects their academic strengths.

College Board AP Exams

Students enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses have the opportunity to earn college credit by successfully completing the corresponding AP Exam. Credit policies vary by college and university.

Cambridge AICE Exams

Students participating in COHEA’s Cambridge AICE Program take Cambridge International examinations. Passing scores may earn college credit at many colleges and universities and help students qualify for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship.

Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT)

The PERT is used by Florida colleges, including Miami Dade College, to determine college readiness for placement into English and mathematics courses. Qualifying SAT or ACT scores may exempt students from taking the PERT.

Testing Preparation

COHEA encourages students to prepare for all standardized exams through:

  • College and career planning with school counselors
  • SAT and ACT preparation resources
  • Practice tests and online study tools
  • Academic support and tutoring opportunities

Students should work closely with their grade-level counselor to develop a personalized testing timeline and ensure they meet college admissions and scholarship deadlines.
